THE 'KING OF THE ROAD' MYVI

It's challenging to live up to expectations as Malaysia's best-selling vehicle, especially when every modifications made with subsequent model updates are scrutinised and evaluated.

And the latest evolution of the Myvi, which is in its third-generation status, sees a very significant change in going Dual Mode CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) from the previous model’s four-speed automatic.

While the Toyota Vios and Toyota Yaris' 1.5-liter engines may be shared by the Myvi, Daihatsu is believed to have created the D-CVT to meet the Myvi's specific driving requirements.

The D-CVT is defined as a small and light transmission that was created to optimise fuel efficiency, deliver "strong and smooth" acceleration at low speeds, and improve transmission efficiency (meaning better mileage).

According to Perodua, the Myvi with D-CVT should have 20% more acceleration and a 5% increase in fuel efficiency (or an extra 1 km per litre of gasoline).

The most recent Myvi model also has a comprehensive set of safety features that make it eligible to use Autonomous Level 2 technology

Advanced Safety Assist (ASA), Driving Assist, Parking Assist, and Head Lamp Assist are the four elements of the Perodua Smart Drive Assist (PSDA), which is a vehicle assistance system.

When the components of each safety system are broken down further, it becomes clear that only the top AV variant offers the entire range of options, and that this is slightly reduced for the variants that follow.

Along with the Lane Departure Warning and Prevention features, Auto High Beam, and the full ASA package of Pre-Collision Warning, Pre-Collision Braking, Pedal Misoperation Control, and Front Departure Alert.

With Driving Assist features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Control, Blind Spot Monitor, and Parking Assist features like Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Reverse Camera, the Myvi 1.5 AV justifies its position as a flagship vehicle.

The front and rear bumpers' vertical strips and daytime running lights in the vertical position are the most noticeable alterations to the body's appearance that readily distinguish it from the previous model.

The Myvi, a new Hatchback from Perodua, comes in 5 variations. The Myvi 1.5L Advance has a 1496 cc, 4 cylinder petrol engine that generates 102 horsepower and 137 Nm of torque. The Myvi 1.5L Advance 5-seater has a CVT. By offering central locking and anti-theft technology, safety is increased.

The pick-up in speed on the move was generally good and we could make reasonably quick passes on the highways, supported by the good engine output of 103hp and 137Nm of torque.

It wasn't too difficult to maintain steady high speeds without straining the engine, and driving at lower speeds of 110–120 kph, where the engine speed was relatively similar to what we were used to in our Alza at 2,200–2,300 rpm was much gentler on the engine.

The steering wheel system, which has electrical assistance, became more rigid as we approached highway speeds and had a weighted feel that required some getting accustomed to.
If we changed lanes without using the indicators, there would be beeps as with all lane departure warning systems.

The steering seemed much lighter when driving in cities, which is how it should feel for simple parking manoeuvres and less strenuous arm strain.

We completed the long distance runs without experiencing any difficulty, despite the fact that the seats typically feature short squabs that don't give enough thigh support.

The front seatbacks may perhaps be a little lower than anticipated, but overall, we didn't experience any back pain, and the back support was good.

Due in part to the short seat squab, we had a small period of time to appreciate the spacious rear seat.

The 277 litres of available luggage capacity is more than plenty, and the rear seatbacks' 60:40 folding mechanisms may be adjusted to provide more space if needed.

The only vehicle with leather seats is the Myvi AV, despite its somewhat flashy red appearance that is more for show than upscale appeal.

It charges a high price for its flagship position at RM58,800 on the road without insurance and sales tax.

Overall, if you want a compact car that is comfortable and provides pretty swift driving on the highway without consuming too much fuel, then this is the one!
